Architectural and Art Tour of the Basilica of Saint Mary and Dinner for Six Guests Prepared by Vincent Francoual

An evening of rich history and French cooking!

The evening begins as Johan van Parys, PhD, Director of Liturgy and the Sacred Arts at the Basilica of Saint Mary in Minneapolis, gives you an in-depth and behind-the-scenes tour of the Basilica, in French or in English.

This remarkable Beaux-Arts building was designed by renowned French architect Emmanuel Masqueray and built between 1907-1914. On the fourth floor of the rectory, visit the archives and art collection of the Basilica. The collection holds objets d’art from the 16th – 20th centuries! Some of the most important archives include the original drawings for the Basilica by Masqueray, as well as drawings for the stained glass windows by Gaytee studios.

Following the tour,  you and five guests will enjoy a three-course meal in the renovated 1927 dining room of the Basilica rectory. Dinner will be prepared by local celebrity Chef Vincent Francoual (of eponymous Vincent a Restaurant fame, and Cara Irish Pubs).

Vincent moved on from French cooking when he closed his restaurant to take on a new role as Culinary Director for Cara Irish Pubs (The Local, The Liffey, Cooper, Keiran’s). This is your chance to once again indulge in Vincent’s French cooking, and during a private dinner entre amis!

Un grand merci à Cara Irish Pub, Johan van Parys, & Vincent Francoual.

Get Jazzy in the Big Easy (Laissez les bons temps rouler, as they say in N’Awlins)

Come Hungry for Southern Cuisine and Soulful Music to New Orleans, Louisiana for Four Days & Three Nights at either the St. James Hotel, the Windsor Court Hotel, the Hyatt Centric French Quarter New Orleans, or the Maison Dupuy Hotel for Two, including a Tour of the City, a Dinner Jazz Cruise and a Class at the New Orleans School of Cooking, and VIP front row seating for a night of jazz at Preservation Hall.

Riverboats, jazz, Creole cuisine and Mardi Gras have given “The Big Easy” its flamboyant reputation, and that rich heritage continues today. Let your dinner jazz cruise take you back to a time when life was as slow and graceful as the current on the Mississippi! A class at the New Orleans School of Cooking and a tour of one of America’s most colorful cities are the finishing touches on your trip to the one and only New Orleans.

Music is always nearby, supplied by the tolling bells of St. Louis Cathedral, the clanging of streetcars, and the rhythms of Dixieland Jazz. Stop for a café au lait and beignets at a sidewalk café. Your thorough and fascinating introduction to the endless variety that is New Orleans on your city tour includes such highlights as the Superdome, St. Charles Avenue, the French Quarter and Jackson Square. End out a day of strolling with a vivacious jazz concert and VIP front-row seating at Preservation Hall.

Preservation Hall is located in the French Quarter, just three blocks from the Mississippi River. Originally built as a private residence in 1750, the hall has evolved into a tavern, inn, photo studio and an art gallery. The hall was created as a sanctuary, to protect and honor New Orleans Jazz. Today, over 40 years later, the hall is still going strong. On any given night, the hall is filled to capacity with people eager to hear New Orleans jazz played by veteran musicians and younger musicians learning and embracing music that is both sweet and very beautiful.

From Cajun to Creole, and French to fabulous, New Orleans is a city of flavors! As the evening sets in, take a lazy ride down the Mississippi in an authentic paddlewheel riverboat for your dinner jazz cruise. The entertaining classes at the New Orleans School of Cooking are held in a renovated molasses warehouse, built in the early 1800s in the heart of the French Quarter. The popular lunch classes include generous samplings of the demonstrated items as well as recipes, coffee, iced tea and beer.
