Bastille Day 2017 in St Paul

Alliance Française and Meritage bring French festivities back to the Capital

What is Bastille Day ?

Bastille Day is the French national day, celebrated every year on July 14. It commemorates , the storming of the Bastille in 1789, which is seen as the turning point of the French Revolution.

Like Independence Day in the United States, the French celebrate all things that symbolize France, such as the tricolor flag; the French national anthem, La Marseillaise, and the three creeds of the French national motto: “liberty, equality and fraternity”. The day is traditionally celebrated with fireworks, communal eating and parades.

What will happen in Saint Paul for Bastille Day?

On Sunday the 9th, from noon to 6 pm, Alliance Française and Meritage will host an outdoor Bastille Day celebration. Stroll around Landmark Plaza, in downtown Saint Paul, while enjoying French music, food and family fun.

Live music will include the band Café Accordion, The Francine Roche Trio and Dana Bogema from KFAI as MC and DJ.

In addition to music, guests can participate in kids activities (bouncy castle, jenga…), discover our Francophone Bazaar featuring local artists and organizations and enjoy  delicious French fare made by renowned French restaurant Meritage with crêpes, wine and cheese. Most importantly, come and meet Marie-Antoinette (the last Queen of France before the French Revolution)!

To cap off the night, enjoy food and drink provided by our partners Meritage !
