We are pleased to offer our French classes in Edina, St Paul and Rochester!

This Winter we will be offering lunchtime conversation classes at the Minneapolis institute of Art for Mia employees.

This Winter the following classes are offered:

Beginner 1 – $425 per student ($14.16/hour), plus Alter Ego + textbook and workbook ($80)

For students with no prior French experience. Once a week for 3 hours, for a duration of 10 weeks

Tuesday 9 am to noon January 10-March 14 OR

Wednesday 6 pm to 9 pm January 11-March 15

Beginner 2 – $425 per student ($14.16/hour), plus Alter Ego + textbook and workbook ($80)

For students having completed Beginner 1 or an equivalent level.

Once a week for 3 hours, for a duration of 10 weeks

Thursday 9 am to noon  January 12-March 16 OR

Tuesday 6 pm to 9 pm January 10-March 14

Expert 2  $425 per student ($14.16/hour), plus Alter Ego 4 textbook and workbook ($80)

Expert 2| CECR level B2 In this level you refining the past tenses and terms used to order events in the past. There is also a focus on using the subjunctive or indicative with certainty and doubt. Time is spent on vocabulary expressing feelings including medical symptoms and on cultural points such as family relations and different levels of language. Material: Alter Ego 4, dossier 3 et 4. Expert 1 or equivalent.

Monday 9 am-12 pm. January 9-March 20. No class January 16 or February 20.

Beginner Conversation – $315 ($15.75/hour), no textbook used

For students with some French experience (A2).  For example, can use the present tense, passé compose, etc.

Once a week for 2 hours, for a duration of 10 weeks

Wednesday 10 am to noon January 11-March 15

Intermediate Conversation – $315 ($15.75/hour), no textbook used

For students with extensive French experience (B1 and higher).  For example, can use the conditional, imparfait, subjonctif etc.

Once a week for 2 hours, for a duration of 10 weeks

Friday 10 am to noon January 13-March 17

French for Travelers- $185, no textbook used (booklet provided)

For students with no prior French experience.

Once a week for 2 hours, for a duration of 5 weeks

Monday 6-8 pm January 23-February 27 (no class February 20)

Alissia Hauteville, as she shares an insider view of the areas’ history,culture and gastronomy.

Reading Le chapeau de Mitterand by Antoine Laurain

$185 ($18.50/hour), Once a week for 2 hours, for a duration of 5 weeks

How would your life change if you suddenly found yourself in possession or a world leader’s signature article of clothing? Denis Dépinoy will guide you through Le chapeau de Mitterand by Antoine Laurain. Discover this fantastic tale about the power of President Mitterrand’s’ iconic hat. Curl up with a good French novel this winter!

For students with extensive French experience (B1 and higher).  For example, can use the conditional, imparfait, subjonctif etc. The book is available through Alliance Française or online and is not included in the class price.

Les Secrets du chocolat

$60, One three-hour class session

Valentine’s Day is coming up quickly and chocolate is ubiquitous this time of year! Deborah Lee-Ferrand will share some of the secrets of its history and importance in Francophone culture. For students with some French experience (A2).  For example, can use the present tense, passé compose, etc.

AF is glad to return to St Paul, in partnership with the University Club of St Paul at their Summit Ave location. Classes are open to AFMSP members and University Club members.

  • La France d’aujourd’hui: current events and conversation

For students with extensive French experience (B1 and higher).  For example, can use the conditional, imparfait, subjonctif etc. Conversation will be based on current events topics. Once a week for 2 hours, for a duration of 5 weeks

Wednesday evening 6-8 pm January 11-February 8

  • Quelques semaines avec Colette

Spend five-weeks this fall with Alliance Française instructor Denis Dépinoy reading La Maison de Claudine by French novelist Colette. The book, published in 1922, paints a bucolic picture of the author’s childhood in the countryside through a series of charming vignettes. Take the time to discover this exceptional French novelist. For students with extensive French experience (B1 and higher).  For example, can use the conditional, imparfait, subjonctif etc. The book is available online and is not included in the class price.

Once a week for 2 hours, for a duration of 5 weeks
