French criminal justice, adventure and romance in Kenneth Farmer’s novel Chez Betty

Join us for a reading and conversation on criminal justice in France through the lens of Kenneth Farmer’s newest novel.

A lawyer going through a mid-life crisis escapes to a small town in the South of France in an effort to reinvent himself. Instead he catches a case of “careful what you ask for”. He is framed for murder by forces he does not understand. His knight in shining armor and chief alibi witness is the five-year-old daughter of his romantic interest.

Chez Betty has everything from dark humor to romance in a picturesque setting, all the while evoking strong emotion and taking the reader through a mysterious and unfamiliar justice system. Whether you’re a Francophile, a law buff or looking for something unique to read, come meet the author. Learn about his inspiration behind this unique tale!

“…a deftly crafted and unfailing entertaining novel from cover to cover…”

Ken Farmer author of Chez BettyAbout the author of Chez Betty

Kenneth Farmer began his thirty-four year legal career as a public defender in Louisville, Kentucky. After, he moved back to his native Wisconsin, where he served as a prosecutor until he retired in 2011. During that time, he defended or prosecuted thousands of cases, including everything from the mundane traffic matter to the not-so-routine capital murder charge.

He has lived and traveled extensively in France, speaks French, and studied the French criminal justice with the assistance of lawyers and prosecutors native to France.

He has published two novels to date. Real Lawyers, the story of a new public defender who proves himself to be a real lawyer, and now Chez Betty.

The book reading and talk will be in English, though the author is Francophone.
