Practice your reading skills and comprehension with les Navigateurs de la Littérature. We are an intermediate book club hosted monthly at the Alliance Française. There we discuss our most recent read, en français bien sûr !

We talk about each book’s story, including the things we liked or disliked about the book. Group members ask questions about anything they did not understand when first reading the story. Next, everyone selects their favorite extract and reads it out loud. We then discuss the special passages. The discussion will be held in French!

Le club est ouvert à tous ! This club welcomes every one, but we recommend attendees be intermediate French readers and speakers.

Returning readers and newcomers are all invited to attend and discuss. Connect with us by contacting culture@afmsp.org. The group discusses a different book at each meeting. Check AFMSP’s site regularly for udates about the next book we will be reading.

This month’s selection is: Chanson douce, by Leila Slimani (Dispo sur Culturetheque)

Synopsis:
When Myriam, a French-Moroccan lawyer, decides to return to work after having children, she and her husband look for the perfect nanny for their two young children. They never dreamed they would find Louise: a quiet, polite, devoted woman who sings to the children, cleans the family’s chic apartment in Paris’s upscale tenth arrondissement, stays late without complaint, and hosts enviable parties for the children. But as the couple and nanny become increasingly dependent on one another, jealousy, resentment, and suspicions mount, shattering the idyllic tableau. Building tension with every page, Chanson douce is a compulsive, riveting, bravely observed exploration of power, class, race, domesticity, and motherhood—and the American debut of an immensely talented writer.
Purchase the book on Amazon or Albertine and at the AFMSP librairie.

The group meets on the second Wednesday of every month.
