Alliance Française Mpls/St Paul will welcome a special guest on January 14: Thomas Cauvin, the renowned filmmaker who co-produced Theo’s Choice. Award-winning documentary film produced in 2017, Theo’s Choice brings light to educators and other activists who contributed to keeping French alive in Louisiana. Also, it explores how globalization could save a language from disappearing.

About the documentary

Théodore Brode is one of the rare French teachers from Louisiana. He is part of the Louisianan generation that discovered the French language in Canada. His ancestors were Francophone Acadians and Creoles, but the 28-year-old grew up speaking English due to a law that prohibited French in Louisiana public education for almost 40 years. The documentary follows Theo Brode and others in his community in their fight for identity in Louisiana and to save Cajun and Creole heritage through education.

If the subject of French language heritage inspires you, I invite you to read more here. But nothing beats a real encounter: so come meet Thomas Cauvin and watch this documentary on Jan 14 at 6:30 pm at AFMSP. Tickets on sale online here or at the door the day of the event.
