AFMSP to Implement Innovative Pilot Program for Adults with Developmental Disabilities

What happens when non-profit organizations come together to accomplish a common goal? The answer is simple: serving adults with disabilities.

As April is World Autism Month, we are proud to announce an innovative pilot program for adults with developmental disabilities in exclusive collaboration with Wingspan Life Resources, a pioneer in igniting clients’ potential to thrive and to live a better life.

This groundbreaking program in the Twin Cities is dedicated to bringing adults with disabilities hands-on experiences with the French language and culture during 9 weeks.

Since the launch of the program in March, more than a dozen students have come to learn about French culture, customs, holidays, greetings and songs with our instructors.

So far, the pilot program has received a tremendous amount of praises, which seem to positively indicate its success. Participants are empowered to pursue greater personal fulfillment through the program, and we have seen a remarkable growth in their self-reliance. One particularly touching moment was when a student mostly nonverbal replied “au revoir” at the end of the class to Anne-Sophie, Alliance Francaise’s Educational Ambassador. It has been such a great honor for us to be a part of our students’ journey of acquiring new skills!

At the Alliance, we love to think outside of the box, especially when it comes to bridging the gap between skills and differences.
