A French Book Club for Beginning Readers!

Le club est ouvert à tous!

Due to a conflict in volunteers’ scheduling this month, please note that our January meeting has been cancelled!

Our next meeting will be: Saturday, February 16, 2:30 – 3:30 pm. We are currently reading Le Petit Nicolas de Sempé et Goscinny

Most of the books are available online through Culturethèque. You may also purchase them in our office or via Albertine. This versio of Le Petit Nicolas is available online here at no cost.

WHO MAY JOIN?

Our Lectures Faciles French Book Club welcomes new and returning participants…even in the middle of a story! We are a friendly group that reads and discusses real French literature in a relaxed atmosphere. While most of the group are students at AFMSP, all are welcome to join!

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?

Attending the book club is FREE! You can access most books on Culturethèque, purchase them in our French Corner bookstore, or order them online. Sometimes the stories are available on the internet, or you might be able to borrow them from a library. Membership at AFMSP isn’t required, but we encourage and appreciate your support.

WHERE DO WE MEET?

We meet every second Saturday of the month from 2:30-3:30 pm at the Alliance Française; however, when AFMSP does not have classes in session, we will meet at an alternate location.

WHAT DO WE READ?

Stories, novels, plays, essays, and poems are chosen by the members. Members sometimes bring pictures, photos, maps, or articles to share more information about the current selection. The selection is made by the people who show up at the meeting when we select the next book.

WHAT HAPPENS AT THE MEETING?

We take turns reading one page at a time. If there is a lot of dialogue, we might read a selection by taking the parts of different characters. Before going on to the next page, we make sure everyone is on the same page. We try to use French as much as possible!

Members often delight us by sharing photos, drawings, historical references, literary techniques, and even personal experiences that relate to the story.

WHO MAY JOIN?
Our Navigateurs de la littérature French Book Club welcomes new and returning members, and discusses a new book at each meet-up! We primarily read contemporary literature, with an in-depth discussion at each meeting. This group is geared towards intermediate and advanced-level French learners.

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?

It is FREE! You can access some of our books on Culturethèque, or order them online.  Sometimes the stories are available on the internet, or you might be able to borrow it from a library. While AF membership isn’t required, your support of AFMSP is appreciated and necessary for our continued cultural programming. As a member of AFMSP, you have access to an extensive French-language library that often includes books from Les Navigateurs’ selections.

WHERE DO WE MEET?
Normally, we meet every first Wednesday of the month from 6 to 8 pm at the Alliance Française; however, when AFMSP does not have classes in session, we will meet at an alternate location.

WHAT DO WE READ?
AF volunteer Bina leads the group and makes book selections, however members are encouraged to make suggestions. Members sometimes bring pictures, photos, maps, or articles to share more information about the current selection.

WHAT HAPPENS AT THE MEETING?
We talk about the story of the book, the things we liked or disliked about the book. Members are welcome to ask questions about the things they did not understand when first reading the story. Everyone selects their favorite part, reads it out loud and then, we will discuss it as a group. Please note that the discussion is in French.

Nos navigateurs often delight us by sharing photos, drawings, historical references, literary techniques, and personal experiences that relate to the story.
