Details about Lectures Faciles!

WHO MAY JOIN?

Our Lectures Faciles French Book Club welcomes new and returning participants…even in the middle of a story! We are a friendly group reading and discussing real French literature in a relaxed atmosphere. While most of the group are students at AFMSP in, all are welcome to join!

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?
It is FREE! You can access the book on Culturethèque, or order it online.  Sometimes the stories are available on the internet, or you might be able to borrow it from a library. Membership at AFMSP isn’t required, but your support is appreciated.

WHERE DO WE MEET?
Normally, we meet every second Saturday of the month from 2:30-3:30 pm at the Alliance Française; however, when AFMSP does not have classes in session, we meet in an alternate location.

WHAT DO WE READ?
Stories, novels, plays, essays, and poems are chosen by the members. Members sometimes bring pictures, photos, maps, or articles to share more information about the current selection. The selection is made by the people who show up at the meeting when we select the next book.

WHAT HAPPENS AT THE MEETING?

We take turns reading one page at a time. If there is a lot of dialogue, we might read a selection by taking the parts of different characters. Before going on to the next page, we make sure everyone has a grasp of the meaning. Our discussion is in French as much as possible!

Some members like to be surprised by the story and read it for the first time in the meeting, while others like to read the story both in English and French, study all of the articles, do extra research and, prepare questions for discussion. Members often delight us by sharing photos, drawings, historical references, literary techniques, and even personal experiences that relate to the story.

In the end, we make the club as interesting and as much fun as we can and no exams!
