New Staff and Roles at the Alliance Française

The Alliance Française welcomes Sara Glesne as its new Cultural Programs Coordinator and Alan Fernald as Outreach Coordinator.

Sara Glesne is originally from Minneapolis, where she received her bachelors in French at the University of Minnesota. She began her involvement with the Alliance Française in 2015 as a volunteer. After graduating from university, she worked as an English teaching assistant in Corrèze, a rural French department where she learned the meaning of “la France profonde” and built lifelong connections.

Upon returning to the US, Sara worked as a barista and as an immigration legal assistant with French-speaking clients before joining the Alliance’s team. Sara is passionate about translation, bicycling, and immigrant’s rights. Outside the office, you’ll find Sara reading, running by the Mississippi or enjoying local music and art.

As of March 16, Sara is responsible for event coordination and planning, collaborating with other staff on event promotion, managing vendor and partner relationships, identifying new opportunities for cultural programming and growing attendance at Alliance Française events.

The Alliance is also pleased to welcome Communications Coordinator Alan Fernald to a full-time role as Outreach Coordinator, where he manages volunteers and membership for the organization. Alan grew up between Maine and Minnesota, and recently returned to the Twin Cities after a decade of life in Maine. Alan studied French and Elementary Teacher Training at College of the Atlantic in Bar Harbor, Maine. During his time there, he studied abroad in France at CAVILAM in Vichy and completed a research internship with an international environmental lawyer in Switzerland.

He completed his student teaching assignment at L’École française du Maine in South Freeport and has taught French to adults at the Language Exchange in Portland. Before joining the Alliance, he worked as a consultant at Opus Consulting Group, a management consultancy with French leadership and clientele.

From March 26 onwards, Alan manages the marketing, communications, and public relations efforts of the organization. He is also responsible for volunteer management, recruitment and outreach and growing the membership of the Alliance.
