Que les Fêtes Arrivent!

Okay, we admit it: with the Marché de Noël this Saturday, Fête d’Hiver December the 12th, and la Fête des Rois to come in January, winter always stirs up the mood for celebration at Alliance Française. This year, we’ve done our best to evoke the spirit of Strasbourg, the proclaimed “Capitale de Noël,” so look no further than AF for your winter holiday events. À quelques semaines de Noël, nous vous proposons quelques événements pour profiter des fêtes à la française.

The season kicks off this Saturday, December 5 from 9:30 to 11:30 am with P’tit Dej and Marché de Noël. Confirmed participants include Trades of Hope, Mademoiselle Miel, Global Mamas, Chez Bloom, C’est Chic, and French-language books for all levels from the AFMSP table. This will also be your first chance to get your hands on a copy of the 2016 Alliance Française Calendar, full of stunning photo submissions of a number of different places in France.marchédenoellogo-271x300

PutaMayo World Music Holiday CDs will be on sale, too. Local author Anne Gillespie Lewis will be selling copies of her latest children’s book, A Perfect Tree for Christmas.

The following weekend, join us in the Grande Salle on Saturday, December 12 for the annual Fête d’Hiver, from 5 to 8 pm. The evening will have activities for all ages, including crafts for children, live music, a holiday raffle, and a feast for all. Try traditional French specialties including bûche de Noël and vin chaud, and enjoy some of your favorite holiday tunes performed live by Macalester’s a capella masters, Scotch Tape.scotch tape

As per tradition, there will be a special visit from Papa Nöel at 6 pm. Parents: please provide a small wrapped gift, valued under $15 and labeled with your child’s name so we can transfer it discreetly to the big man! Plan to arrive before 6 pm to be sure not to miss it. Reserve your tickets today at $8 for AF members, $10 for the general public, and free for AF High School French Club members and children under the age of 12. Admission for all is $10 at the door.

Then, Sunday, December 13 marks the return of Ciné Kids at AFMSP, with a touching holiday tale, Le Père Noël. Bring the kids at 3 pm for a screening of the film, in French with English subtitles.

Also, be sure to save the date now for an animated reading of king’s tales with Mary-Contine on Saturday, January 16 at 9:30 am. Que les fêtes commencent!
