Alliance Française is delighted to offer French classes in Rochester beginning May 6, 2017!

Minneapolis – Alliance Française will offer three six-week class sessions each year in in Rochester, beginning May 6 at the 125 LIVE center for active adults, located at 125 Elton Hills Drive NW.  Course offerings include two levels and a book club.

Alliance Française is the only French cultural center in the state of Minnesota, based in the North Loop area of Minneapolis.  It was incorporated as a 501(c)3 non-profit organization in 1975 and offers French classes to more than 1,000 students each year.  Additionally, Alliance Française organizes more than 100 cultural events each year and offers a library of French books, magazines and films for the community to borrow.

In 2015, due to overwhelming support and demand from the local community Alliance Française Minneapolis/St Paul (AFMSP) launched cultural programming in Rochester with a Bastille Day festival on the Peace Plaza, which attracted 500 attendees. AFMSP then began offering two events each month, an informal French conversation group, Petit Dej and Ciné Club, a French film screening at the Rochester Public Library.

Since beginning programming in Rochester, AFMSP has developed many partnerships in the area including the Mayo Clinic, Rochester Community & Technical College, Tessa’s Office, Grand Rounds Brewery, Fox 47 News, People’s Food Co-op and more. These events and partnerships have revealed the enthusiasm of the local community for cultural offerings and their desire for additional opportunities to speak and learn French.

According to the US Census Bureau 15,000 people speak French in Minnesota. Rochester has the sixth highest population of French speakers in the state.

Conversation will be based on current events topics. For students with extensive French experience, for example, can use the conditional, imparfait, subjonctif etc….
