Alliance Française presents a guided tour from May 12 to 22, 2017.
Join Alliance Française for a special trip to France in May 2017, to discover the castles, vineyards, gardens and countryside in the areas of Tours and Bordeaux.
Our time in Tours will coincide with the Foire Internationale, which will highlight Minneapolis and the 20th anniversary of jumelage between our two cities. Over the course of this ten day adventure, we will visit three castles and their sumptuous gardens, as well as three family-run vineyards in two of the most reknowned wine regions of France. Enjoy fine French cuisine in restaurants ranging from casual to elegant.
This special opportunity is perfect for people who like to travel with a spirit of exploration and adventure, looking to discover new areas of France.
The tour has been organized by Sara Monick, Art of Living Tours; Simin Hickman, board member, Alliance Française & Minneapolis Tours Sister Cities Association; Alissia Hauteville, AF Educational Ambassador; and Christina Selander Bouzouina, AF Executive Director.
Where We’ll Go and What We’ll See (at press time, additional details forthcoming)
Arrive in Tours, the sister city of Minneapolis, and begin your stay with a welcome reception at the Hôtel de Ville, hosted by the Mayor and his staff. Spend two nights at the Grand Hôtel while we discover the city, its markets and the Foire internationale. On our last evening in Tours, we’ll discover Cave Bourillon Dorléans and enjoy a candlelit dinner and Vouvray tasting.
Next, we’ll travel to Domaine de la Tortinière, a château-hôtel, in the nearby countryside for three nights. Enjoy daytrips to Chenonceau, Château Clos Lucé – Parc Leonardo de Vinci, and Villandry, as well as an on-site cooking class with the chef of Tortinière. En route to Bordeaux, we’ll stop at Château Azay-le-Ferron for a walk through the gardens and lunch.
Upon arrival in Bordeaux, Alissia Hauteville will serve as our guide of her hometown. With four nights at Hôtel de Sèze, we will visit the city, its marché des Capucins and Cité de Vin for a tour and meet the proprietaires of a local family-run winery, Château Cailleteau Bergeron. Finally, pour finir en beauté, a visit of Château de Vayres and on to the village of Saint Emillion and the return home or wherever your path may lead you.
