Update on Alliance Française’s facility plans

Learn more about Alliance Française’s facility plans

As you know, over the past several months, we have revisited our facility plans in response to recent challenges at our building, including significantly reduced access to parking. We are grateful to you and the many donors, volunteers, students, members, and staff who shared input and opinions on our long-range facility plans.

A special task force of board members and volunteers worked with Tegra Group, a professional real estate advising firm, to determine the facility plans that will best address our program needs, serve our mission, and see us into the future. The task force identified key criteria for assessing how well our current building, as well as alternative comparison sites, could support our current programs and services as well as support the vision for the future of the Alliance Française Mpls/St Paul. The task force’s work included a thorough exploration of available parking options at our current site.

We also gathered opinions from members, community leaders, supporters and faculty and staff. Thirty-one individuals participated in personal interviews with Fox Advancement, our fundraising consulting firm, and 415 completed an online survey.

The findings gathered from these interviews and surveys were extremely helpful. Overall, more than eighty percent (80%) of respondents indicated that they would be in favor of Alliance Française Mpls/St Paul moving its headquarters to address accessibility concerns and program needs.

Findings were presented to our Board of Directors at their Annual Retreat on January 21, 2017.

The Board determined that the current building, as we understand its limitations today, does not suit the future needs of the organization. The next step will be to continue the work of the current task force to review and make facility recommendations, including testing programmatic needs with available building options and sites.

After a careful, robust planning process, we are excited and confident in our path forward. As someone who cares about Alliance Française Mpls/St Paul, your input and opinions are important. We will make sure to keep you updated and seek your input every step of the way. Please contact me with any questions.

Again, we greatly appreciate the input that you and many other volunteers, students and members, provided as part of the planning project. Your support, and the support of others like you, is vital as we continue to build a community of people passionate about francophone culture in all its global diversity and to serve as the indispensable destination for all things French in Minnesota.

Merci infiniment,
