Bastille Day 2026

Bastille day 2026

Bastille Day is coming! Each year French people celebrate Bastille Day or le 14 juillet, on July 14th. This National Holiday celebrates the moment when the French people stormed the Bastille prison in 1789 in order to get gun powder. This revolt is considered a major step towards the following events leading to the French Revolution. In France, la fête nationale is celebrated everywhere through numerous balls, live music, games, fireworks and a big parade on the Champs Elysées in Paris.

Join us at the Alliance Française for our annual celebration on Tuesday, July 14th from 5 to 8pm.  We invite the community to enjoy live music, traditional French food, and entertainment for the whole family!

 entertainment

course de garçons de café

This is a staple of Bastille Day celebrations all over France, la course de Garçons de Café! The rules are simple - you complete an obstacle course while you carry a platter loaded with items with one one hand and avoiding spilling or dropping anything. If something falls you start all over again!
8 teams can participate in this timed relay race. The 2 teams with the best times will face one another in the final race. Each team can count 4 members maximum. Be careful to keep your glasses full! Fun costumes are encouraged - this is a family friendly competition!
Everyone who participates will have the memory of a lifetime!

One person registers for the team and pays $40 to cover the entry fee for the whole team (4 participants). Notice: only sign up one time. Please make include your email address and phone number so we can inquire about your team's members and team's name.

Reach out to Madelein if you want to participate but don't have a full team of 4 at intern_eventplanning@afmsp.org.

Cooking Demo

Join the dynamic duo, Joe & Dotty Zahner, in the AFMSP teaching kitchen during Bastille Day for a delicious crêpe demo!

Crêpes are a dish made from unleavened batter or dough that is cooked on a frying pan or a griddle. Crêpes are usually one of two varieties: sweet crêpes (crêpes sucrées) or savory galettes (crêpes salées).

You'll learn tips and tricks to making the perfect crêpe for a summer brunch or dessert!

About Joe and Dotty

Chef Joe Zahner is a graduate of the California Culinary Academy in San Francisco, California. Joe graduated in the Top ten percent of his class and was selected by his peers as the class valedictorian. Joe has over 40 years of experience in all areas of the food service industry.

Dotty Zahner has loved cooking since she was ten years old. Her love for food and cooking drove her to the California Culinary Academy. She did not expect to meet her husband, Joe Zahner, there, but it was a nice surprise.

Her greatest pleasure is sharing her craft with others. She has developed classes for students at Cooks of Crocus Hill. Her other greatest pleasure is using her skills to raise funds for various organizations, STEP in St Louis Park, and St. Thomas the Apostle in Minneapolis. She loves to collaborate with Joe to develop menus.
