Un peu d’histoire

Off of the southeast coast of Africa, lies a group of islands in the Indian Ocean, renowned for its unique wildlife, pristine rainforests, world-famous spices, and unique culture. Ninety million years ago, the earth’s plates shifted and created the Indian Ocean. It was at that time that Madagscar broke away from mainland India and became isolated from other species, one of the reasons lemurs are only found on this island. Today, Madagascar is a mere 250 miles from the coast of Mozambique.

Le voyage

Our adventure begins in Antananarivo, or Tana as locals say, where we will spend two nights exploring the capital of this vibrant, unique island nation. Then, we will set out to discover the wildlife and vegetation that make Madagascar so unique, visiting the Peyreras Chameleon Reserve and Andasibe National Park, spending two nights on the edge of the rain forest. Our next stop will be in Manambato, before crossing the Pangalanes Channel to Ankanin’ny Nofy, to admire several species of lemurs and stunning botanical gardens. Our final stop in Madagascar will be Tamatave, a vibrant bustling city to visit a spice market and admire the work of local craftsmen.

We’ll fly from Tamatave to Saint Denis on Reunion Island, an overseas department and region of France. The black basaltic rock coast will take your breath away as we visit Cap Méchant. We’ll admire Piton de la Fournaise, a volcano and natural wonder, and sample local rums at a traditional distillery. Next, we’ll climb the road to Cilaos for stunning mountain views and immersion in the local culture. From there, we will head west to Kélonia, visiting a sea turtle refuge on our way to Saint Gilles where we will spend two nights at a beachside inn on the shores of the Indian Ocean, enjoying a free day to explore and relax. We’ll stop in Maido and Saint Paul as our trip nears its end and we return to Saint Denis, where we will enjoy a free day before our overnight flight to Paris.
