3C by 2Fik
Alliance Française Mpls/St Paul welcomes you to an opening reception of the photo exhibit 3C by Montréal-based artist 2Fik.
Born in Paris to a Moroccan Muslim family, 2Fik's work playfully and strikingly explores identity, cultural contrast and gender.
The show 3C uses photo triptychs to compare everyday activities in three Francophone cultures: France, Morocco and Québec. Using those locations as a backdrop, 2Fik plays with notions of how everyday life differs and yet remains the same on different continents, communicating through body language of a shadow character in head-to-toe black. This exhibit brings to the front questions of self and identity - particularly the ways we adapt to multiple cultures.
Guests will have the opportunity to meet the artist that evening.
Light refreshments served.
Everyone welcome. Tous sont les bienvenus.
3C will be on display through November 1 in La Galerie at AFMSP.
La Galerie's hours are the same as the AF's general open hours.
Who is 2Fik?
Born in Paris to a Moroccan Muslim family, 2Fik lived in France for most of his life. He also spent several years in Morocco. In 2003, spur-of-the-moment he decided to move to Montréal. Following his emigration experiences, 2Fik rapidly found himself amidst a world that inspires him about identity, political and social problems.
The approach intended by 2Fik is playful, yet powerful social reflection. Exaggerated stereotypes in his work encourage viewers to discuss the idea of universality, gender equality and the acceptance of being unique.
