Mois de la Francophonie - Cooking Class with Chef Jérémie Jean-Baptiste

Cooking Class with Chef Jérémie Jean-Baptiste

Discover new recipes and flavors from Martinique! Join AFMSP for a live cooking class and cocktail demonstration with Chef Jérémie and Rhum Clément. This event is part of our month-long Celebration of the Antilles françaises during the Mois de la Francophonie, a series on the French departments of Martinique and Guadeloupe.  During this event you will learn to prepare a Martinican meal, and a cocktail recipe featuring Martique’s famous rhum.

The evening will begin with a presentation from Melissa Pinkerton and Ben Mélin-Jones (Rhum Clément) about the history of rhum production, styles of Martinican rhum, and its Appellation d’origine contrôlée status. You’ll also learn how to make a traditional Martinican cocktail!

Next, Chef Jérémie will lead the class in French and Christina Selander Bouzouina, AFMSP Executive Director, will lead a simultaneous translation. Participants will receive a shopping list after registration, should they choose to prepare the recipes during the class.

Introduction from Consul General of Canada in Minneapolis Monsieur Ariel Delouya, and Martine Hébert, Québec Delegate in Chicago

Le Menu - pour deux personnes

Le plat :
Shrimp Dombré with tomatoes
*Dombré is a traditional dish in the Antilles. Its composition is rather basic, and its distinctive character comes from the use of small dumplings comparable to gnocci. In this unique dish, the dumplings are used to accompany the sauce. Dombré is a fisherman’s dish (which we reflect in this recipe) and a popular meal that played a role in the childhood of every Antillean. This dish can be altered in a myriad of ways; I decided to show you the marine version of Dombré.

Le dessert :
Mango-Guava Instant Sorbet with lime
