Celebrate the Millennium of the Cathedral Notre-Dame de Chartres - Designing Chartres Cathedral: A Geometrical Perspective

Join us in la Grande Salle for the first event in a series celebrating the 1,000th Jubilee of Chartres Cathedral. Organized by The American Friends of Chartres, these lectures will be led by MJ McGregor, Ph.D. To learn more about the series, click here

For this first event, we will broadcast a recorded lecture organized by the American Friends of Chartres on May 14, 2024. In this lecture, Robert Bork and Ellen Shortell use modern laser techniques to explore the geometric principles underlying the cathedral's remarkable proportions and architectural features.

The lecture will begin with introductory remarks by MJ McGregor, Ph.D. referencing the original quarry, medieval tools, and campaign crews that created a harmonious whole over its mere 30 years of construction.
