Join us outside for a reflection on "Closing the distance” with performances and remarks by our friends :

This event will be held outdoors, in-person, in accordance with guidelines set forth by the State of Minnesota. Masks will be required and social distancing enforced. Join us on the patio of La Dona Cerveceria, just two blocks from AFMSP’s Joly Center.

The Nuit des Idées (Night of Ideas) will take place on Thursday, Jan 28 around the world. The 2021 theme is “Closing the distance,” whether thinking about the pandemic, politics, social justice or many other realms. The central theme of the event is our relationship with space and others, for each of us and within our societies.

The Institut Français, part of the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs, launched this world-wide meditation a few years ago, with a dedicated theme guiding each edition. Since 2019, in the US, the cultural services of the French government have hosted events in this series in US cities of New York, San Francisco, Chicago. Our partners have asked AFMSP to participate in 2021.

Every year, the Nuit des Idées invites us to celebrate the sharing of knowledge and ideas between countries and cultures around the world, encompassing all disciplines, in art and science alike, in order to listen to those who are taking the conversation forward in all fields. It is an opportunity to reflect on the major issues of our time.
