Lectures Faciles!

We are thrilled to annonce that Lecture Faciles will resume on May 13. Alliance Française staff members are avid readers and the return of Lecture Faciles fits squarely with our mission of promoting French language and Francophone cultures as well as building strong bonds in our community.

WHAT IS LECTURES FACILES ?

We are a Beginner’s French Book Club that reads and discusses French literature in a relaxed environment. Lectures Faciles welcomes new and returning participants…even in the middle of a story! No preparation is necessary; for each meeting, we take turns reading the text aloud one page at a time, which we then follow with discussion. The discussion will be in a mix of French and English, with each member using French as much as they are comfortable.

Everyone is welcome to join! Membership at AFMSP isn’t required, but we encourage and appreciate your support.

Attending the book club is free! Most books are available online through Culturethèque. You may also purchase them in our office at our French Corner bookstore. Sometimes the stories are available on the internet, or you might be able to borrow them from a library.

LECTURE FACILES’S CURRENT SELECTION

The selection for May is Deux Ans de Vacances by Jules Verne. Deux ans de vacances (English: Two Years’ Vacation) is an adventure novel by Jules Verne, published in 1888. It tells the story of a group of schoolboys stranded on a deserted island and their struggles to overcome adversity. In his preface to the book, Verne explains that his goals were to create a Robinson Crusoe-like environment for children, and to show the world what the intelligence and bravery of a child were capable of when put to the test.
