JEAN-LUC RAHARIMANANA

Born in Antananarivo, the capital of Madagascar, in 1967, Jean-Luc Raharimanana is an award-winning novelist and poet. After receiving a degree in literature in his hometown, he joined a theatre group and completed his first play, “Le Prophète et le Président” in 1989. Following this success and the publication of a collection of short stories, Raharimanana moved to Paris to study at the Sorbonne and the Institute National des langues et civilisation orientals. Across diverse literary forms, he combines legends with contemporary events, drawing on Madagascar’s rich oral tradition to create powerful stories about family, history, and politics. Raharimanana’s works have been translated into German, Spanish, and English.
The author recently published ‘‘Tisser’’, at Mémoire d’encrier in Québec.
